Every resurfacing project begins with a thorough survey of the existing courts. We assess structural integrity, identify cracks requiring treatment, and address any significant surface undulations to ensure the finished court meets strict level tolerances. Prior to any surfacing work, the courts are treated to eliminate moss and algae.
Where drainage improvement is needed, we pierce the existing tarmac at approximately 450mm centres to enhance water permeability. The original tarmac surface is then primed with a bitumen emulsion to maximise adhesion between the old and new layers.
Once preparation is complete, a new layer of 6mm porous macadam aggregate is installed using a paving machine, laid to a 6mm tolerance across a 3-metre straight edge -ensuring a consistently level, high-quality playing surface.

Following installation, STM allows a minimum four-week curing period for the macadam to fully set and residual oils to dissipate - a critical step that ensures optimal adhesion for the finishing coats.
Once cured, two coats of water-based acrylic paint are applied, followed by precise line markings for tennis, netball, and football.
To protect your investment and extend the lifespan of your newly resurfaced courts, STM recommends a regular maintenance programme including routine sweeping, chemical moss and weed treatments, and full repainting every three to five years.
"Working with contractors during term time in a school is never easy. STM were considerate and professional at all times. The standard of work is excellent and we are extremely happy with the end result. I can highly recommend them."
