Become a Leading Active School with STM

11th July 2016

Whether it is before, during or after school, government guidelines set specific examples of how pupils can contribute to their school being ‘branded’ as a leading active school. When physical activity should be accounted for at least 60 minutes a day, schools can’t just encourage their pupils to walk to and from school. There needs to be so much more! Synthetic Turf Management (STM) can help your school to become a leading active school in the UK! How? In today’s blog we are going to discuss how bespoke STM facilities can do just that!

What the Government Says?

So we already know that at least 60 minutes of activity should be completed daily for 5-18 year olds, but what else do the physical guidelines say? Well firstly the document talks about how we should try and minimise the amount of time pupils spend sat sedentary in the classroom. Unfortunately, this is the most common environment for crucial lessons such as English, Maths, History and Languages. But there are things you can put in place to change the usual routine. Transferring learning to the outdoors is something we always encourage here at STM, you can bring your colourful and educational displays outdoors and have them implemented onto a bespoke playground surface. A non-abrasive flooring for your playground that can be made up of a variety of different colours which can be used as a classroom, PE or sports surface and even for playground usage before, after and during dinner time at school. Making your premises a leader in active schools!

Implement your own educational designs. This helps younger children with their letters.

Vigorous intensity physical activities are also mentioned within the guidelines and in particular fast running as a method of improving fitness and eliminating the long periods of being sedentary. Sports is something that we specialise in and our running tracks are a very popular addition to any outdoor synthetic surface. We can cater to all ages and take into account the years of the pupils who will be using the surface when we design your project. This physical activity ensures that yours is an active school and encourages teachers to transfer lessons outdoors and not just the dinner hall for PE sessions!

It’s Not All About Improving Fitness!

Not only can implementing these bespoke facilities mean that your school becomes an ‘active school’ there are so many other benefits that the government has identified which we believe our surfaces can deliver too! These include improved self-confidence and developing new social skills in a different type of environment.
