Community Centre- An Interview with the Manager

28th February 2019

In Autumn 2017 the STM team were in Newcastle at the Community Centre. Three months on and we asked Centre Manager Jayne Maxwell what she thought of the install and how they were getting on with their new 3G artificial turf football pitch.

Why did you choose artificial turf for your project?

“When our facility opened 10 years ago, we had a sand based artificial pitch installed. Over time it needed to be replaced”.

What was the aim of your project?

“To ensure that we provided accessible and affordable playing surfaces to our community”.

How have you benefitted from your new surface?

“We use to have 2 teams playing on it per week but now we are fully booked”.

How would you rate the work that has been carried out?

“Dave who measured up was excellent, the guys who fitted the surface were brilliant and Louise has been superb with her aftercare”.

“We were receiving part funding from the Football Foundation who were difficult funders to please but nothing was too much trouble for Louise”.

Has anything changed as a result of the new surface?

“We’re full!”

What Do STM Think?

We love to see the pitches being used by the local community and increasing participation in all sports across many different communities. At STM we think that it is crucial for all community facilities to have safe places for people of all ages and abilities to play and that is exactly what West Moor now has.

With thanks to West Moor Community Centre.
