STM to Create Two New EPIC Playgrounds in November

1st November 2014

November will be another extremely busy month for us, in that we are getting so many requests from schools around the country to transform their dreary and drab playground spaces into bright, colourful and tactile EPIC areas before the winter weather kicks in. We thought that we would give you an insight into some of our big upcoming projects over the month of November.

Good Shepherd Primary School - Shepherds Bush - London

Good Shepherd Primary is a beautiful school in the very heart of Shepherds Bush, and we were very honoured to be asked to work our magic on it. It will be a fantastic achievement for all involved here at STM, as we will take 3 days out to transform their currently unused playground into an EPIC Quiet Garden for the children to relax, play and engage with each other between lessons.

EPIC, for those of you that don’t know, means ’Education and Play in Colour’, and is a concept that we designed ourselves to help transform outdoor learning and play for kids. With the success of the EPIC playground that we installed at Easter this year, we were approached by the school to convert another section of their playground into a quiet area, and of course, we said yes!

We had many ideas in regards to how we could revamp this lacklustre play area and we came up with a design which incorporates two textures of grass with inlaid insects in the longer pile landscape grass, giving vibrant colours for the children to admire. We also utilised our infamous playground markings of the number 1 to 20 and letters A-Z and will inlay them into our very own EPIC grass. As these are a firm favourite for all of our primary school clients, we hope that Good Shepherd are very happy with the outcome once they see it.

The overall design of this quiet area allows us to integrate both an educational and relaxing atmosphere for the younger children, creating an outdoor classroom for them to use all year round.

Forest Oak School - Smiths Wood - Birmingham

The Forest Oak School project is going to be a huge one for us, in that it will take approximately 10 days to convert. It is a very inspiring job for us, as it is a Special Educational Needs school, and we love to help make the lives of SEN children a little easier by injecting a bit of fun into their learning environment. It’s always a real pleasure for us to be able to take part in projects like this.

We’re really excited about this challenge, as we’re going to transform their existing unloved playground into an EPIC one!

Synthetic Turf Management are very familiar with this particular school as we have previously installed a MUGA that was 600m2 in size around 5-6 years ago. Being asked to go back and change another area within this lovely school was amazing, as we really enjoyed working on our last project there.

Original MUGA Installation through the fencing

We were initially contacted earlier this year with a challenge to come up with some ideas to transform the existing playground and utilise one specific area for sport, which we gladly accepted! The school have decided to resurface the football area with our EPIC grass and then install a new fencing system to create another mini MUGA.

This new area will incorporate a brand spanking new permanent 5-a-side pitch with goals and a single gate access, along with a 3 metre high twin bar fence with rebound panels all around the edge.

This newly refurbished play area will help to introduce more ball sports into the daily lives of the children of Forest Oak, which is vital for their health. Not only will the school have a modern, safe and child friendly area to play in, but they will also have a space where they can enjoy educational games and that all-important play time which they love. We will keep you updated with the progress, so keep your eyes peeled!
