Last week STM were in Roehampton installing a sensational bright blue multi use games area (MUGA) for Sacred Heart School. This completely renovated the surface and turned it from a cold and dull ground to a super safe and durable sports facility that all of the other schools in the area would be jealous of! Read the story below…
Before Synthetic Turf Management came into the picture, this was Sacred Hearts sports court. The pitch markings were very faded and it just didn’t encourage pupils to use the surface as much as it should have. Artificial turf is a fantastic solution to eliminate such problems, this is because the pitch markings are actually cut into the turf (not sprayed on) so there is no worry about them completely fading in the future!
Sacred Heart wanted a 21st century MUGA and that is exactly what STM delivered.
The first step in any of our projects is to have a full consultation with our customers to understand exactly what it is that they want with their MUGA. After that a CAD design is created using specialist software to give a visual representation of what the end result will look like.
And then comes the installation. During all of our projects we try to create the smallest inconvenience to the customer as possible but particularly during school projects as we understand that it can be difficult to ensure no one uses the sports facility at the time of the MUGA installation.
The base works of the MUGA need exceptional care as this can ensure the longevity of the product, furthermore drainage needs to be sufficient. What is great about using STM is that we prepare all of the base works for you to produce a MUGA that you can use all year round!
Laying the artificial turf carpet for the MUGA.
We used multi sport grass for the MUGA, this is because it is predominantly a hockey product however fantastic for multi-sport use. With an 18mm pile height and a monofilament yarn system it produces a high performance multi use games area for schools.
During the sanding process
After the carpet installation sanding the new MUGA surface is a very important part of the installation. Sanding acts as an infill for the surface and helps to protect the yarn system. It also ensures that the grass blades stand up in the correct direction. In the future sand can often disperse to the edge of the MUGA, regular brushing and maintenance will give you the best performance of your turf and adjust the lifespan of the product accordingly.
And the surface complete!
The new MUGA took just a short time to complete and the 500 square metres had been drastically transformed.
The school now have a surface to be proud of!
Did you know that STM can even install fencing and other equipment for your MUGA?
Furthermore, there were so many opportunities to brand the court so that everyone would know that this was Sacred Heart’s MUGA.
A logo of Sacred Heart School was included for the centre of the new MUGA, all completed by Synthetic Turf Management.
