How to keep an Artificial Turf MUGA in Pristine Condition

1st June 2016

Here at Synthetic Turf Management (STM) we always want you to get the most from your artificial turf MUGA, to ensure the longevity of the product and to make certain it remains attractive to your target users. Whilst artificial grass doesn’t need as much maintenance as natural grass, you should keep a close eye on your synthetic surface and provide regular maintenance, all of which STM can provide as part of a package.

Keeping a MUGA clean should be a priority for all Facilities Managers

We have published some tips to help you make the most out of your artificial turf MUGA

  1. Drag Brushing- This method of preventative maintenance will help to distribute the infill to all different areas of the artificial surface. With frequent usage the infill levels tend to migrate to the edges of your surface, drag brushing makes sure these are redistributed to the centre.
  2. Moss and Algae Control- Specifically if your MUGA is near vegetation, a chemical treatment should take place approximately four times a year, this can be completed with a standard light weed killer, but please don’t hesitate to contact us for more detailed information.
  3. Specialist De-Compaction-This is a specialist piece of maintenance equipment which is used as a cleaning aid to make sure that drainage and playing characteristics are maintained efficiently.
  4. Removing Debris- A simple inspection of your artificial turf MUGA and removing debris such as leaves and litter discourages contaminants and gives the turf ‘room to breathe’
  5. Infill Levels-Infill acts as a protective barrier against the yarn and ensures the blades of the grass are standing up in the right direction. It is very important to monitor the infill levels on a regular basis.
