We’ve been up to a lot lately, but one of our major projects was St Patricks Primary School in Thornaby in Teesside.
St Patricks is based in the North East of England and is a Catholic Primary School that we helped to transform in the month of October. The school approached us to come up with a concept that was going to fix the problem of their soggy school field, as it was holding water easily, looked unpleasing to the eye and posed a real hazard to their pupils. As they were only able to use it during a few months of the year, they wanted something to solve this.
The school also had issues with their old playground, as not only was it worn down, but it was very gritty and the markings were unrecognisable. Because of this, the yard just appeared cold, grey and hard.
We came up with a proposal to remodel four different areas within the school, so as part of this, we agreed on installing a MUGA, which was a good answer to their ongoing problem.
First of all, we revamped the nursery playground by installing artificial turf into the area with markings that looked like a roadway, traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing. Children love this type of play area as they can play while pretending to be cars. As well as this, we also installed grass that had a multicoloured A-Z cut into it, and the numbers 1-10 ascending up a brightly coloured image of a snake.
We believe that this whole area was transformed into a beautifully clean, colourful and inspiring outdoor play and learning space for the young children that attend the school.

Our next challenge is to convert the KS1 play areas, which we will approach with the help of the school.
