STM Award Finalists at SAPCA 2018 Annual Conference

7th February 2018

STM are delighted to announce that we were finalists at the SAPCA Awards for 2017. STM was nominated for the Award for Excellence with reference to our work at Pimlico Academy.

The Conference

The annual conference was again held at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwickshire and is a great opportunity for businesses operating in the industry to network and bring the best end products to our clients. As a loyal member of the Sports and Play Construction Association (SAPCA) we always strive to support its aims and share the same commitment to raining quality standards in physical activity, play facilities, sport and recreation that are designed, built and maintained across the UK.SAPCA 2018 conferenceThe conference is filled with seminars to update us on the upcoming changes and share expertise about the industry.

The Awards Dinner

As part of the conference, we also attended the annual awards dinner and were over the moon with our award for Excellence.SAPCA finalistsDirector Jon Bell, (5th from left) with the other finalists.

Pimlico Academy

This year we put forward our resurfacing installation of a magenta and royal blue Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Pimlico Academy https://stmworld.co.uk/blog/post/resurfacing-synthetic-football-pitch-london in London.

Dozens of our projects were considered for the Outstanding Achievement nomination but it was the vibrant colours and individuality of the pitch that really stood out for this install (it isn’t very often you see pink on a MUGA; especially at a secondary school!)

We are assured that the attractiveness of the courts will encourage pupils of all ages and abilities to try something new and aim to reach out to all young people who wouldn’t have thought to take up a sport. In the past sports such as football have been a male-dominated sport, so we hope that this installation, which can be used for football too, will contribute to the role of girls in sport and encourage more to take one up.School resurfacing with artificial turfThe resurfacing required an uplift and removal of the existing synthetic surface which had been down for a few too many years. This was then replaced with a high quality British manufactured artificial grass product. STM had the opportunity to work with fellow SAPCA member TigerTurf on this project using a huge 2520 square metres of their Evo Pro sand dressed product complete with white and yellow permanent line markings. This is an appropriate turf type for school sports; durable for everyday use yet admiral and eye-catching requiring considerably less maintenance than other alternatives.

We believe this installation works towards our aim, SAPCAs aim and Pimlico Academy’s aim of promoting health, well-being and activity amongst young people in schools. In addition to increasing pupil participation in the sport.

Thanks to a fantastic installation team we could really make something of the project and deliver the school a multi-purpose outdoor space to enjoy for many years to come!
