Synthetic Turf MUGA Leading the Way in Sports Facilities

28th April 2016

Northfield School and Sports College have had a synthetic turf MUGA designed and installed by STM and it definitely gives this school the wow factor! With tennis, netball, hockey, football, a long jump pit and a sprint track this school is now able to add to the syllabus a variety of sports so that every student has the opportunity to improve their skills in a range of sports.

Synthetic turf MUGAs are usually installed using multisport artificial turf which is predominantly used for hockey surfaces, however with its different colour properties and fantastic durability it’s no wonder that this high performance turf is number one choice in the education and community sectors.

Northfield before the MUGA

Northfield School in Billingham, Teesside, had a cold concrete surface which did not make full use out of this large space. Our clients saw the possibilities of their sports area and came to STM for a bespoke project that would see a vast number of their pupils benefit.

Overhanging Vegetation on concrete sports surface

Overhanging vegetation could cause a nasty slip on the surface especially in the wet weather.

Northfield school had a thorough consultation and inspection of the pitch. A CAD design is prepared to visualise the new synthetic turf MUGA and optimise the turf. STM can also provide fencing and lighting recommendations from our partner Sports Lighting Company

The base works are all prepared and drilled to allow for the best drainage of the MUGA in the wet weather and to encourage the usage of the pitch all year long.

Our dedicated team of installers will then ensure that your artificial turf MUGA is installed to a superior standard.

And then it turned into this! What a project!

The contrast in colours of the artificial turf made the surface stand out and attracted more students to the pitch.

And Northfield school benefit highly from it! In fact, the school was recently judged by School Sports Magazine as one of the top ten state schools for sporting achievement! Something which this synthetic turf MUGA encourages on a daily basis.

So now you have seen a story of how something incredible can come from something that doesn’t look like it would have much potential!
