Community Facility Gets a New MUGA

Synthetic Turf Management have recently completed an outstanding project at Great Witley Quarter Green where we have designed, created and installed a MUGA for an area of 698.5m²

As facilities and the technical elements of sports constantly develop, STM always use the most up-to-date high quality products to ensure that you get the most from your sports surface and MUGAs are no exception. In today’s blog we are informing you of the fantastic tennis court conversion into a colourful multi use games area (MUGA).

MUGAs are a sports surface made from artificial grass that combine a range of different sports into one multi-purpose pitch. These are very common in schools and leisure centres as they optimise the limited use of space for some areas.

The Specifications

The MUGA in this project was made with an Evo Pro Surface. This has 8 years’ product warranty and is a sand dressed product that is usually used for hockey surfaces. It has a fantastic capacity as a multi-sport product and comes in a variety of colours which makes it fit for purpose.

The Process at Great Witley

Sometimes sports pitches can become old and worn resulting in a decreased player performance. Great Witley Quarter Green opted for a decision for a MUGA at their sports area in Worcestershire. Before the installation the old tennis courts were in need of a revamp.

The first step was to take up the existing pitch

 As part of the installation STM uplifted and removed the existing timber board and chain link fence system. After the base preparation with clean stone, STM extended the play area in length and width installing new pin kerb surrounds and levelled the pathway. We also supplied and installed new 25mm 6mm open porous macadam layer to play area and new extended pathways.

STM then supplied, delivered and installed 119 metres of high Twin Bar Super Rebound fencing including basketball nets and gates.

Roll out rubber pad installation before the artificial turf is laid for the MUGA

 We installed TigerTurf Evo Pro Multi-Sport Grass for the MUGA with our team of highly qualified installers.

STM can do all sorts of markings for your MUGA pitch, this one had an inlay of design markings including a 5-a-side, tennis, netball and basketball pitch.
