From Third Generation Football Turf to Sand Dressed Hockey Pitches- Artificial Grass for Sports with Synthetic Turf Management

5th June 2017

The use of artificial grass for sports has escalated over the past decade. Now we see a trend in not only football products but hockey, rugby, golf, MUGAs and athletics surfaces too.  Due to the unpredictable British weather, synthetic seems to be the way forward in our country as the surfaces offer something that natural pitches do not. The ability to play in all-weather types without running the risk of seriously damaging the surface. In addition to this, the low maintenance and versatility of artificial grass for sports makes it a unique product in the market.

So, What does Artificial Grass for Sports Actually Cater For?

STM now provide specialist artificial grass for sports for a range of different activities. We use British manufactured grass which has been tested specifically for the uses, tackles, twists and turns of many different sports. Plus, we carefully select products that adhere to certain standards including those set out by FIFA, IRB, FIH and ITF.

Here are some of the surfaces we provide:

Multi Use Surfaces

MUGAs (or multi use games areas) need to be equipped with a turf type that can be used for a variety of different sports. That is why our fully texturized multi-sport product is a very popular artificial grass for sport. The product is available in variety of different colours. This means when the lines are cut in to mark out a specific sport, these can be easily seen.

Tennis Courts

Whether it be a private tennis court, school PE facility or a community/local sports centre, our advantageous tennis grass is the product to beat. The sand infill that we use to the exact needs of tennis helps to extend the longevity of the turf type as it protects the yarn. Also available in different colours.

Football

If you’ve heard of artificial grass before, you are most likely to associate it with football and perhaps 3G (Third generation). This is the most advanced product. The artificial grass is infilled with a rubber crumb which has been proven a perfect surface for the sport.

Hockey

People love colour when it comes to hockey pitches. At the 2016 Olympics spectators were mesmerised by the bright surface the hockey teams were playing on. Well we can offer bright colours too. Our hockey artificial grass is approved by the Federation of International Hockey and is a best seller of ours.

Athletics

Athletics are more common in schools than anywhere else. And we love to see an increase in schools accommodating for javelin, hurdles, track, relays and long jumps to create a wide range of offerings. What is great about athletics is that they also use a multi-sport product too. Therefore, often STM have installed an athletic track around a MUGA to create the best usage of space.
