BBC News have recently published a story on former international football player turned coach, Dean Saunders. As you can imagine this professional has lots of experience within the football industry in many different key aspects, so we were keen to hear his views, comments and experience (most of all on the playing surfaces!)
A recent 3G football pitch project completed at Walsall FC’s training ground
What is making so many youths of today come through the academies with such skills, such motivation, determination and giving an incredibly high performance in their first game? Of course, they may be exposed to the best coaches in the country and have been given the best training possible, but we are sure the facilities play a large part in this too. Particularly, and often considered the most important, is the synthetic surfaces.
Let’s cast our minds back to the Euros 2016. Who stunned you the most? Portugal? Croatia? Or Iceland? Of course, it was Iceland! For such a small nation, they had a collection of elite and high performing athletes that shook England to the very core during their last game in the tournament. What makes the team so good? How does a country which has a population of 329,000 people make an amazing mark in sport history? And another factor to look at is the weather! Most players are unable to play outside during most of the months due to the cold and wet weather conditions. We can help you with that one. BBC Sport reported that there are 30 full sized all-weather pitches and over 150 smaller side ones which shows that synthetic turf can make the biggest difference of all! The national news broadcaster goes on to mention that 3G pitches are often placed indoors to ensure the sport can be played all year around! There you have it. The real reason why there are so many footballers from this small country.
“As a professional coach I noticed that players who’d come through academies with good 3G pitches had really good skills levels” (BBC News). The ex-footballer goes on to mention the role of maintenance in a synthetic grass installation and the benefits that this product offers, “Even where public grass pitches are dry- it’s unrealistic perhaps to expect cash strapped councils to cut the grass as often as I’d like, so kids can work on their passing”. Mr Saunders isn’t the only one who believes 3G pitches help children (including his son) develop. There are so many individuals that you will come across on an everyday basis, mums and dads, grassroots coaches, PE teachers, and so many other people come to us every day telling us of how amazing their 3G pitch is.
Don’t forget for the most advanced synthetic turf that you can get, you have come to the right place. As designers, suppliers and installers of 3G pitches specialising in professional clubs, schools and local facilities you can be sure you’re in good hands.
