Earlier this month we were delighted to complete an artificial turf resurfacing project for Southmoor Academy in Sunderland. The high achieving school was in need of a revamp; it’s existing artificial grass surface was looking a bit worse for wear after twelve years of heavy use. So, the school required an existing artificial turf uplift and a totally new surface designing and installing. At STM, this is exactly the kind of project that we like to get our teeth stuck into. It wasn’t long before ideas starting flying, and soon we’d designed a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) that was set to enhance student’s learning and gaming experiences all round.

Southmoor decided to opt for a top quality surface, as opposed to a cheaper needle punch system. Due to the amount they use facilities like this, we thought it was an excellent choice! High quality pitches last much longer in terms of both performance and appearance, so it’s a good idea not to compromise at this early stage of the process. 

The new pitch was designed in EVO PRO, a specialist hockey surface that is multi-use-games tested for hockey, tennis and futsal.; the perfect choice for a MUGA!

Artificial Turf Resurfacing- What did the client think?

At STM, there’s nothing we love more than a success story, which is why we were pleased to hear the following praise from the Assistant Principal of Southmoor:

"I judge companies and their work on how much I have to, or not have to, be involved when the work is being done, i.e. any reminders or any chasing up. Everyone involved has worked in a professional manner with the staff throughout our school, in fact you would hardly know anyone has been on sight as STM have simply got on with the job without any fuss! STM have provided everything as advised and requested i.e. safety pads. Pupils have been asking every day “when can we play on the MUGA again?”; it’s great that they’re excited to be playing sport on a top quality surface. I’m glad we decided to pay a bit extra rather than go for a cheaper, inferior surface.”

The old surface was removed carefully to ensure that the new surface would sit flush with the pad. The EVO PRO surface is a TigerTurf system and, with 12 years warranty (based on a full pitch), was the perfect choice for multi use games and heavy usage during break times. The installation went extremely well, with the weather holding out during the 7 day install. Always a bonus!”

Another artificial turf resurfacing job completed and another school satisfied; that’s what we like to see.
