What is a MUGA Pitch?

MUGA pitch constructions are regularly completed widely over the UK, but what makes these games areas the number one product on the market for multi sports? Well just that! They can take in several different sports and their rules onto one surface, thus utilising space and increasing the facilities that the leisure centre/sports club/school has available to offer. Vibrant blues, greens, yellows and reds are often used in our installs  to create an attractive looking surface that everyone wants to use, but even if you use the best turf around, if the product is not installed correctly this can cause huge problems in the future.

MUGA Construction Details

The most important part of any MUGA pitch construction is the base works. At STM we start as we mean to go on and that means that we will never lay an artificial grass carpet if the base works are going to reduce the lifespan of the product. We can install the base works on top of different surfaces from natural grass to concrete playgrounds but we always ensure that each have the following:

• Adequate drainage- to prevent flooding on your surface.
• Smooth and level base- to keep safety as a number one priority.
• Free from foliage- so weeds won’t penetrate your artificial surface.
• A cushioning base if necessary- for certain sports, and particularly if your surface is used by children, we will install a shock pad as part of the surface to cushion falls and absorb impact.

Often, existing base works will be used as this is the most cost effective option, if we can salvage your surface and build on top, we will! Often this may involve patching up the existing base and levelling off sections.
