Meeting National Curriculum Requirements for Outdoor Learning

17th April 2014

Getting primary school pupils outdoors, active and motivated can be tough. British weather acts as a consistent hindrance, and poor facilities often make the whole experience a little dull. But national curriculum requirements for outdoor learning and physical education are becoming more and more demanding over time.

Outdoor learning

It’s well established that children benefit massively from physically demanding activities, interaction with others, and spending time in an outdoor environment. It’s proven to boost their confidence, happiness and wellbeing, both physical and mental. So what can we do to help schools achieve outstanding results when it comes to outdoor learning?

Artificial grass playground surface

We’ve developed a playground system, designed to help teachers meet various aspects of the national curriculum. It’s main aim is to make the whole experience fun for children. We wanted to tackle the problem of bored pupils, and take the “chore” element out of outdoor learning for both teachers and children alike.

Made from brightly coloured artificial grass, our surfaces can incorporate a number of tailored markings. From running tracks, to hopscotches, to football markings, the surfaces are designed to help schools meet national curriculum requirements, and have fun, too. Agility, basic movements, control and balance, competitive games and coordination can all be practiced on one of our bespoke playground surfaces.

Outdoor classroom

Of course, it’s not just the physical stuff that counts. We know that taking a break from the indoors can be energising and inspiring, which is why our playground surfaces can be designed to act as an outdoor classroom, too. We can cut a number of different educative markings into a surface, such as phonetics, ABCs, numbers and educative games. As we move further into spring, it’s a good time to start thinking about getting outdoors whenever we can!
