We are into the second part of our Hutton Rudby project today and looking at the tennis court uplift that we completed last month. This is a very careful procedure that needs to be done correctly as this influences the rest of the project. Take a look at what we did…
Tennis court uplifting involves a number of different processes. STM were on the scene and eager to start these processes.
Over a number of years, the artificial turf gets much heavier. The chemical compound breaks down the yarn and reduces performance. Remember the turf will have endured years of wet weather, additional contaminants (which can be heavy) and the sand infill that has likely been topped up over the years, therefore this cannot be rolled up into one to be removed.
The first step is to use specialist cutting tools and precision technique to carefully cut up the artificial turf into much more manageable sections. This is also in aid of protecting the existing base works and ensure removal of the project is effective, which in turn can save tennis clubs a considerable amount of money by not damaging the base works.
Removing the tennis court this way is time and cost efficient for the customer.
The artificial turf is removed section by section and reveals the old painted tarmac beneath.

This shows just how heavy the artificial turf is and how much water it holds onto!

The lesson learned today is that tennis court uplifts should be carried out professionally and efficiently as they are a large job. A particular set of equipment should be used to ensure complete protection of the base works.
