Upgrade to An All Weather Pitch for Your School with Artificial Grass

28th June 2017

Looking for something to encourage physical activity? An all weather pitch is a great way to optimise space and tackle the growing problem of inactivity among children.

Physical activity levels are low in the UK. Physical activity recommendations are met by 24% of girls and 32% of boys in England, aged 2-15 years. (Sustrans Charitable Organisation).

Is it time to change now?

What does All Weather Mean?

An all weather pitch can provide a solid start in tackling problems such as obesity in children and helps to encourage more to see the potential in the outdoors rather than being sat at home playing computer games or on mobile phones/tablets. All weather means just that. An outdoor (or sometimes indoor) surface that can withstand every weather type but not only that, can be used in every weather type. We use synthetic turf because we think that it is the best product for just that. It is very durable and can have a life expectancy of 15-20 years! This all means no more postponing after school activities or having more indoor playtimes. An all weather pitch is more commonly referred to as a MUGA.

The Facts and Benefits

There are several key areas that schools can benefit from by implementing an all weather pitch to their school:

  • Saves Space- An all weather pitch (or MUGA) combines different sports markings from different sports. You may decide to include netball, football, basketball and tennis markings all on one surface. This is therefore saving space and can be applied to even small areas.
  • Maintenance Friendly- Artificial turf is low to maintain as opposed to natural grass. We offer hassle-free maintenance packages with our installations and better yet, the first one is free so you can see what you get with every maintenance.
  • Environmentally Friendly-No mowing which is better for the environment! No watering which saves too!
  • Retains its look-All our synthetic turf is UV stabilised and comes with product warranties and guarantees. It doesn’t discolour and still thrives for years after installation.

Overlays vs Full Build MUGAs?

The all weather pitch can be constructed in a number of different ways. Our two most popular ways are full build and overlays.

Full Build- These are usually constructed on a natural grass base, the full basework will need creating before the artificial turf is installed.

Overlay- This is where we use the existing base (which may need patching up in some cases) to install on. An example of an existing base could be a concrete playground.

A playground overlay on top of a concrete playground and a full build muga on a natural grass field
